Campaigning Underway After Years Of Delays In Mali

Published
Mali is preparing to hold crucial elections.Campaigning for the municipal vote is underway following two years of delays due to the persistent insecurity in the country. Malians will cast their ballots on November 20. They will elect 12 thousand Councillors in the country's 703 communes. As the government wrestles with implementing a peace deal, the country's five northern regions are awaiting the installation of interim authorities ahead of full elections which will be held once basic security can be guaranteed. Mali has struggled to end unrest in the north, which in 2012, fell under the control of three radical Islamist groups, thrusting the entire country into chaos.
