Major Cities In South Africa Struggling With Shortages Amid Heatwave

Published
South Africa's major cities are struggling amid an intense heatwave. In Johannesburg, the water supply to some suburbs has been cut as reservoirs run dry. Water tankers have been deployed to parts of teh capital, Pretoria, mostly in poorer areas. Cape Town too is affected, with authorities there implementing restrictions, including a ban on hosepipes for watering gardens. Further restrictions are expected in cities should the heatwave continue. One of the country's most important water reservoirs, the Vaal River system, is reportedly at only 27 percent capacity.
