The granddaughter of the late former president, Nelson Mandela, has called on South Africans to honor Madiba by taking action against gender-based violence. Ndileka Mandela was speaking on the side-lines of the Mandela Remembrance Walk and Run in Pretoria. Thousands of people braved the cold, wet Gauteng weather to celebrate the legacy of Madiba by running or walking for five, ten, or twenty-one kilometers.
