Employees at the canning facility protested outside the plant on Wednesday following the announcement of Premier Foods' proposed closure of its Tulbagh plant.
The Agricultural Food and Allied Democratic Workers Union (AFADWU), together with the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), said Premier Foods will on Wednesday brief them on alternatives to the proposed closure.
Last month, the company announced the closure of its Tulbagh Fruit Products Western Cape plant, just four months after acquiring Rhodes Food Group through a merger.
The closure is expected to impact thousands of jobs.
Many employees are seasonal workers.
