Armed group attacks threaten northwest Nigeria's grain basket

Published
Repeated armed group attacks in northwest Nigeria have led to a worsening security situation and the near cessation of economic and farming activity.
As a result farmers are leaving their lands, threatening crop growing in the region which is the country's main grain and cereal basket.
Critics say the central government appears to have little control over what happens in the region, despite its words of reassurance.

Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris reports from Katsina, northwest Nigeria where hundreds of people, including school children, have recently been abducted.
