Botswana is intensifying efforts to contain an outbreak of foot and mouth disease that has disrupted the livestock sector and threatened one of Southern Africa’s key beef export industries. Authorities have introduced strict livestock movement controls and set up veterinary checkpoints and disease control barriers in affected areas to curb the spread of the disease.
