Nigeria’s healthcare system is under pressure — and cosmetic surgery is exposing some of its biggest problems.
This week on The 77 Percent Street Debate, we look beyond the growing demand for procedures like BBLs and ask what they reveal about healthcare in Nigeria. From underfunded facilities and limited access to care to weak regulation and concerns about patient safety, the challenges go far beyond beauty surgery.
For some, cosmetic procedures are about confidence, self-expression and choice. But when clinics operate without proper oversight and patients face serious risks, who should be held responsible — doctors, clinics, patients or the government? And what would it take to make Nigeria’s healthcare system safer and more accessible for everyone?
