The DRC govt will auction oil and gas blocks in the Cuvette-Centrale Peatlands in the Congo Basin forest. Peatlands are known as 'carbon sinks' because large stores of carbon are packed into them. Environmentalists say the project will worsen the climate crisis amongst other issues, the govt denies.
