The Democratic Republic of Congo's military has taken control of the eastern provinces of North Kivu and Ituri after the president declared a "state of siege" against armed groups.
It is in response to "cries of distress from the population".
But human rights groups are concerned that it could lead to an abuse of power.
Al Jazeera's Catherine Soi reports from Nairobi.
