Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed under pressure to allow mediation

African and international leaders are pushing Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to allow mediation of a war in the northern semi-autonomous Tigray region that has spilled into neighboring Eritrea. Two days ago, Eritrea was drawn into the conflict when the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) fired rockets into Eritrea's capital Asmara, which is seen as an ally to Ethiopian government forces. Prime Ministe Abiy Ahmed ordered a military operation to bring Tigray back under government control on November 4.
