Kenyan Government Bans Use Of Plastic Bags

Published
Kenya’s Environment and Natural Resources Cabinet Secretary Judi Wakhungu says the ban will take effect in 6 months’ time.

After that, the use, manufacture and importation of all plastic bags used for commercial and household packaging will be illegal.

The Cabinet Secretary states that the banned plastic bags fall in in two categories – carrier bags and flat bags.

Previous efforts to abolish the use of plastic bags have failed, and it remains to be seen if the latest ban will bear fruit.

A ban on plastic bags has been extremely successful in Rwanda.
