Mombasa port expansion expects to boost trade in East Africa

The Port of Mombasa is among the busiest in Africa. It is strategically placed between South Africa and the Gulf of Aden.It handles 1.1 million containers currently but it is expanding to handle 2 million containers by 2022. The expansion is part of a strategy to help this region to import and export more goods and compete for more bigger vessels against S. Africa and Egypt. More vessels and goods through the port will translate to
more jobs. Cruise ship terminal is also complete and ready, it is expected to boost tourism in East Africa.
