Sudan is making significant strides to improve maternal and newborn health services. It recently launched an initiative aimed at fighting the high death rates in the country. It is thought one in every 32 Sudanese women is at risk of maternal death. The initiative dubbed ''Ten in five'' is to improve the situation in 10 fields -- namely reproductive, neonatal, maternal and child health, among others. The country has partnered with international bodies such as the W.H.O. and UNICEF. The Chinese government has also been offering medical assisatnce to Sudan.
