The 2021 Kenya Time Use Survey shows women do nearly five times more unpaid work than men. The report estimates that unpaid domestic and care work, mostly done by women, would nearly match the contribution of Kenya’s agriculture sector if monetized. Joshua Musyimi, a gender statistics specialist at UN Women Kenya, says recognizing this invisible labor is vital for women’s empowerment and for building a fairer economy.
