Residents of Timbuktu have welcomed the trial of Ahmad al-Faqi al-Mahdi. Al-Mahdi faces a maximum sentence of 30 years imprisonment, but prosecutors say they will seek a sentence of between nine and 11 years. Locals say they're grateful that he's finally being held accountable.
