Trial Of Former Ivorian First Lady Begins In Abidjan

Published
The trial of Simone Gbagbo, the former first lady of Cote d'Ivoire, on charges of crimes against humanity, opened Tuesday in Abidjan. Mrs. Gbagbo has already been handed a 20-year jail sentence for "attacking state authority" over her role in post-election violence in 2010 that left more than 3,000 people dead. Local residents have different views about whether this trial is in the interests of national reconciliation.
