Uganda is partnering with Saudi Arabia to monitor labour reforms and assist stranded migrant workers affected by the recently scrapped Kafala system, a decades-old sponsorship scheme that gave employers control over workers’ lives. Rights groups urge Uganda to update its labour deal with Riyadh in line with ongoing reforms aimed at curbing abuse and promoting fairer, safer employment.
