A British court has dismissed pollution complaints Niger Delta residents have laid against energy giant Shell. More than 40,000 members of the Ogale and Bille communities are demanding action after decades of oil spills in the region. Lawyers representing the claimants say that Shell is ultimately responsible for failing to ensure its Nigerian subsidiary operates without causing environmental devastation. The Niger Delta residents applied for the case to be heard in Britain, arguing that they would not receive a fair hearing in Nigeria. However, the High Court in London has ruled it didn't have jurisdiction.
