South Africa wraps up what's been a very consequential year on the global stage - characterised by an unprecedented decline in the bilateral relationship with the United States, and a triumphant Presidency of the G20, and the historic hosting of the first leaders' summit on African soil. As the year draws to a close, the country is now navigating what's already shaping up to be a complex G20 Presidency of the United States, which has kicked off with the exclusion of South Africa from the first G20 sherpas meeting, set for next week in Washington. In response, South Africa has reportedly, officially asked other G20 members to object to the country's exclusion, officially communicating that request with the embassies and high commissions of those countries.
