The year 2026 looks set to be an eventful one for South Africa with a number of political events in the offing.

The country will hold the crunch local government elections, celebrate 30 years since the adoption of the constitution and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Uprisings, among others.

The much-awaited Constitutional ruling on the Phala Phala case is also expected.

Some political party events to watch out for, include the DA's elective conference and a possible IFP Conference.

On the international front, South Africa is set to skip the G20 Leaders' Summit in the US after President Donald Trump's decision to exclude Pretoria from the meeting of developed and developing countries.
