AARTO Act starting in December 2025, aims to promote safer driving habits

South Africa's long-awaited Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Amendment Act, commonly known as AARTO, will come into effect on the first of December this year.
President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the proclamation in August, officially gazetting the AARTO Act.
The first phase will roll out across 69 municipalities.
The driving licence demerit point system is scheduled to officially commence on the first of September next year.
