DISCUSSION: Does media create pressure to judiciary legitimacy?

Independent judicial institutions and commentators have warned that media storms create pressure and risks to judicial legitimacy. This follows Vusimuzi Cat Matlala's bail appeal being dismissed by the South Gauteng High Court. The dismissal comes after Matlala was denied bail at the Alexandra Magistrates' Court and appealed the decision in the High Court. Matlala faces charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, fraud and attempting to defeat the ends of justice. According to Attorney Tumelo Vana, Cat Matlala should be granted bail because charges fall under Schedule 5.
