Some alleged instigators, who were part of the social media groups that incited public violence during the 2021 July civil unrest, had international links to countries like Cuba.
The Durban High Court heard evidence from the State's first witness, the Hawks' Major-General Gopaul Govender, who was the National Co-ordinator for Unrest Investigations.
Govender is testifying in the trial of the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party's Member of Parliament, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, who is charged under the Terrorism Act.
