Egypt’s Khaled El Enany was elected as UNESCO’s new Director-General, winning 55 out of 57 votes. The Egyptologist and former tourism minister becomes the first Egyptian, Arab, and only the second African to lead the UN agency. His four-year term is set to begin in mid-November following formal ratification in Uzbekistan.
