Egyptian Parliament Approves Three-month State Of Emergency

Published
Egypt's Parliament has approved a three-month state of emergency after at least 44 people were killed in twin bomb blasts on Sunday. The state of emergency came into effect as of 1PM local time on Monday. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has also ordered troops to be deployed to assist police in securing key sites. The emergency decree will give the security forces wide-ranging powers. Ending martial law was one of the demands of the popular unrest that ousted former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
