Ethiopia's defence ministry has denied that one of its military air attacks hit a busy market in the northern Tigray region.
But it admitted attacking Tigray regional fighters in the area.
Dozens of civilians were reportedly killed in the attack on Tuesday, which the United States has called a "reprehensible act".
