Fears grow of a new Western Sahara war between Morocco and Polisario Front

Published
A 29-year-old ceasefire has been broken between Morocco and the Polisario Front, the national liberation movement of the Saharawi people after the Front declared war over the Western Sahara region. Political commentator Sami Hamdi says the Moroccan army entered a buffer zone to open a road linking Western Sahara with Mauritania which had been blocked by Polisario supporters and fighters. Amid reports of shots being fired, the clashes are unlikely to see a full resumption of war between the two protagonists.
