The President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, has made major announcements on the eve of the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Speaking at a media briefing in Rabat ahead of the start of the biennial tournament, Motsepe announced the launch of a new 54 nations tournament -- the African Nations League. He says the tournament which will start in 2029 will result in a much higher quality of football and improved infrastructure on the African continent. The CAF President also spoke of their eight year plan to increase grants to member associations to one million dollars, as well as increases in prize money for CAF competitions.
