Gabon Remains Divided Ahead Of Ali Bongo's Inauguration

Published
Gabonese President Ali Bongo is due to be sworn in for a second term in office, just days after the Constitutional Court validated his election victory. Violence broke out across Gabon last month when the electoral body announced that Bongo had won the vote by a slim margin. Opposition leader Jean Ping contested the results and filed an appeal with the country's supreme court. Late on Friday the court confirmed Bongo's victory and dismissed Ping's claims of fraud. Ping has rejected the court ruling as have his supporters.
