The national G20 Women's Shutdown will be commemorated today at Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley.

The silent action will run for 15 minutes with women dressed in black. The movement aims to highlight the scourge of violence affecting women and children across the country and to draw the government's attention to this urgent issue.

A women-owned law firm is supporting the initiative by helping women with court documentation to protect themselves against abusive partners.
