CABINET ALLOWS DUTY-FREE IMPORTS OF FERTILISERS AND BASIC COMMODITIES

Government will allow duty-free imports of basal and top-dressing fertilisers ahead of the 2026/2027 summer cropping season to address anticipated supply shortages amid forecasts of a Super El Niño and rising global fuel and fertiliser prices. Duty-free imports of basic commodities will also continue under Statutory Instrument 59 of 2006, which remains in effect until March 2028.
