The government is expected to embark on a R440 billion project to roll out fourteen thousand kilometres of transmission lines in the coming decades.

It has been noted that the Transmission Development Plan presents an opportunity to drive the country's industrialisation and localisation strategy towards economic growth.

Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has argued that the country must be willing to pay a premium to ensure that the expansion of the electricity grid leverages industrialisation and transformation.
