A year into a conflict between government forces and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), Ethiopia has seen thousands of lives lost and more than a million people displaced.

Now, a larger humanitarian crisis looms, with nearly half a million Ethiopians facing starvation.

International and regional diplomats are working to contain the conflict and stave off the spectre of famine. But is there a way to avoid catastrophe?
