A full bench of the Western Cape High Court has indicated that judgment will be reserved in the matter between Professor Adam Mendelsohn and the University of Cape Town.
This follows a resolution taken by the university council in June last year, that no UCT academic may enter into new, or continue with existing relations with a group or network affiliated to the Israeli Defence Forces.
Mendelsohn approached the court to have the resolution reviewed, citing, among others, non-disclosure of the full implications, including withdrawal of funding, before the decision was made.
Two high-profile organisations within the Jewish community have applied to be friends of the court to provide information that might be deemed helpful for the court to make its decision.
