Kenyan and Ethiopian Leaders Open Border Post

Published
The leaders of Kenya and Ethiopia on Wednesday opened a joint one-stop border post in Moyale, a market town that straddles both countries.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed hailed it as a "key milestone" for the two countries that would help integrate East Africa "as one family."

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said that local residents in Moyale had a central role to play in strengthening the nations' ties.

The new border infrastructure will form part of the Trans-African Highway project.

The meeting between the two heads of state came amid international calls for more transparency into the monthlong fighting between Ethiopian forces and the fugitive Tigray regional government that is thought to have killed thousands.
