Heavy rain at Margate on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast has caused major flooding in the central business district. Videos of the scene show huge volumes of water washing down roads and alleyways in the centre of town. Trees have also been uprooted blocking some roads in the area. The popular Shelley Beach Centre at nearby Shelley Beach has also been flooded. In videos, shop owners can be seen mopping up shop floors and passages. There are also reports of houses that have been flooded in Palm Beach and Port Shepstone. There are also reports of heavy rain and flood damage in Port Edward on the south coast, at Empangeni on the north coast and in the capital Pietermaritzburg in the Midlands.
