The birthplace of former statesman Nelson Mandela in Qunu, Eastern Cape, is a hive of activity as the world commemorates the 12th anniversary since the passing of the country's first democratic President.

A number of activities have been lined up by the Nelson Mandela Museum Youth and Heritage Centre to commemorate Madiba.

The activities currently underway include a wreath-laying ceremony, candle lighting, an early Christmas Children's carnival and cultural exhibitions. SABC News reporter Nkululeko Nyembezi has more.
