Somalia's government has to date evacuated nearly 2,000 Somali nationals from Sudan. Others who are still there, many of them students, are fleeing to the nearest border countries as the conflict continues in the North African nation. There were about 7,000 Somalis living in Sudan before the conflict erupted.
