United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres has urged world leaders to choose people and planet over pain in his New Year's message. In the video statement, Guterres described how global military spending has risen to 2.7 trillion dollars, or thirteen times the amount spent on development aid. Conflict rages at levels unseen since World War 2, he said, and added that peace must prevail.
