The KwaZulu-Natal unity government is headed for a political crisis following the National Freedom Party's decision to ditch the coalition.

Today, the NFP reaffirmed its stance to withdraw from the GPU, but says the door remains open for talks with the ANC about its decision.

The ANC has written to the NFP leadership, requesting a meeting, in its attempt to prevent the collapse of the GPU.

Meanwhile, the NFP has hit out at its suspended member of the legislature, Mbali Shinga, for refusing to resign from the provincial cabinet.
