The role of religion in a constitutional democracy is receiving renewed attention following discussions around proposed regulatory frameworks for religious faith groups.

These proposals, linked to the work of the CRL Rights Commission, aim to encourage accountability and good governance within religious institutions, while also raising important constitutional considerations around freedom of religion and association.

As the conversation continues, there is growing interest in understanding how faith communities and the state can engage constructively in a way that protects rights, promotes ethical leadership, and serves the public interest.

Joining us for this conversation is Professor Philippe Denis, Senior Professor of the History of Christianity at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, who is also a member of the Dominican Order in the Catholic Church.
