* A 14-year-old girl has been injured after being struck by a stray bullet during a cash-in-transit robbery in Thokoza on Gauteng's East Rand.
It is believed a gang of robbers driving in a private vehicle rammed into a security cash van.
* Disaster management teams have been deployed to the KwaZulu-Natal midlands following yesterday's severe thunderstorm.
At least three people were injured, with 150 households affected across several municipalities.
* The search continued today for a missing member of the South African Defence Force whose vehicle was reportedly swept away by water in the flooding Nkomazi river in Komatipoort, Mpumalanga on Christmas Day.
Yesterday the body of the other soldier who was travelling with him was recovered from the river.
* The African Union has rejected the decision taken by Israel to recognise Somaliland as an independent state.
The continental body says the AU constitutive act must be respected and it will not violate the decision taken by the OAU in 1964 that commits to respect of borders inherited during independence.
