The South African Weather Service has warned of severe thunderstorms in the North West, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape and the Free State. On Thursday, the weather service issued a Level 2 warning for thunderstorms with hail, damaging winds and heavy downpours in Gauteng.
