Global ratings agency Standard and Poor's (S&P) has given South Africa a major boost, upgrading its foreign currency credit rating from 'BB-' (Double Minus) to 'BB' (Double B) with a positive outlook.
The move, which follows the country's improved fiscal position outlined in the 2025 Medium Term Budget Policy Statement, has been widely welcomed.
However, economists caution that this is only the beginning of a long road, stressing that significant reforms must continue.
