The African Medicines Innovations and Technology Development Platform (AMITD) at the University of the Free State (UFS), takes indigenous medicines into the global platform.
The platform conducts health research with special interest in developing new herbal medicines working with communities and traditional healers with the knowledge and background of herbal medicines.
It has been recognised by various departments and now AMITD is leading a global research project into traditional medicine after being awarded a research grant from the World Health Organisation.
This project will take place six regions including Africa, America, Southeast Asia, Europe, Eastern Mediterranean and the Western Pacific.
