The Other Kids

Published

Meet Mubiru Reagan, a young boy from Kampala, Uganda, who dreams of becoming the next Fernando Torres. After being abandoned by his mother at just 3 years old, Reagan had to fend for himself on the streets, surviving by selling scrap metal and stealing, always on the run from local mafias.

Still, all he wanted was to score the goal that brings Uganda their first African Cup home, and after numerous years of hardship, Reagan was finally discovered by a trainer who wanted to make his dream become a reality. Only one problem remained, the lack of access to education - the key to a better future. Fortunately for Reagan, his trainer provided him with a football grant to help secure his education.

This grant, a lifeline for thousands of kids, gave Reagan the chance to escape life on the streets. But with the lack of funding in primary schools in Uganda, the children’s access to schooling is at risk. We follow Reagan over the course of one year as he overcomes numerous challenges in pursuit of his dream.

Featuring Fernando Torres, Sergio Ramos, Yaya Touré and Vincente Del Bosque, this inspiring story reveals the power of football to change the lives of some of the poorest children in the world.
