Tigray conflict highlights border dispute between Ethiopia, Sudan

Published
Sudan says it has played an important role in helping refugees from Ethiopia despite its own economic difficulties.
But this crisis is not the only challenge posed by the conflict.
The al-Fashaga triangle, where most of the refugees are being hosted, covers an area of about 250 square kilometres and it has around 600,000 acres of fertile land.
Sudan says it is an integral part of its territory because it lies west of the line drawn by colonial Britain.
But Ethiopia maintains an army presence there and Ethiopian farmers exploit large parts of the land.
A joint committee has been trying for years, with little success, to demarcate a border.

Al Jazeera’s Mohamed Vall reports from al-Fashaga triangle on the Sudanese-Ethiopian border.
