After weeks-long pursuit, the United States Coast Guard and US military seized a Venezuela-linked, Russian-flagged oil tanker that was being shadowed by a Russian submarine. This formed part of Washington's efforts to block Venezuelan oil exports, US officials said. United States Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth says that the seizure of a Venezuelan oil tanker in international waters by US forces, represents one of the most significant military operations in recent history. He adds that the action has drawn global attention, including from within Venezuela. Hegseth added that two oil tankers have already been seized and emphasized that the current administration prioritises decisive action to advance US national interests.
