The first Sherpa and Finance Track meetings of the G20 under the Presidency of the United States will be held in Washington, D.C., over the next two days.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the meeting in a Substack post in which he wrote that South Africa would not be invited to participate in any G20 meetings during Washington's Presidency.

Pretoria contends it would not attend but insists that, as a G20 member, it did not require an invitation to participate in meetings of the group.

Sherwin Bryce-Pease reports from New York.
