And the City of Cape Town has established an on site joint operation centre, at an informal settlement in Dunoon outside Cape Town.

A fire broke out at the Site 5 informal settlement earlier today, destroying a number of structures.

Humanitarian group Gift of the Givers is on the ground in Du Noon in the Western Cape, where the largest fires to hit the Western Cape have left hundreds of structures ablaze, as firefighters battle fierce winds.

Additional support has been brought in from surrounding areas to help contain the fire, with the number of affected residents running potentially into the thousands.
